If you know my dear hubby, you know he has control issues. So I truly made him crazy because I planned an elaborate road trip for Father's Day and wouldn't tell him where we were going. The only thing that kept him from insanity was knowing that he would have the whole day with our kids and grandkids.
All our destinations were written on post it notes and when we got into the van I pulled out the first note and stuck it to the dashboard. That was how he found out we were going to Stratford.
It was a drizzly sort of day as you may recall but I kept my fingers crossed that the sun was going to come out . . . and it did.
While we waited for our river cruise, we had a lot of fun exploring the riverbank and feeding the geese and ducks.
The reason I used this photo is that you can see our boat in the background.
There are statues and gardens all along the river.
When we returned to shore, we went on a bit of a walking tour. Our first stop was to check out Jenn and Larry's.
We stopped to enjoy the music.
Do I know how to make hubby happy, or what? LOL. We did check out a couple of stores on the way here but this was our goal.
Our goal was Family and Company, an amazing old-fashioned toy store where you are encouraged to play with the toys..
Yeah . . . they let hubby play with a remote control helicopter . . .
If you are in Stratford you must stop at Rheo Thompson. It is a beautiful candy store with the best toasted marshmallows I have ever eaten.
We stopped at McCully's Hill which is between Stratford and St. Mary's and picked up some yummy baked goods and canned goods.
Our last stop of the day was The Quarry in St. Mary's. This is the largest outdoor pool in Canada and extremely beautiful. The water is so clear you can see the floor of the quarry. It was still rather cold so early in the season but my daughter-in-laws were brave enough to jump in first. It took a little coaxing to get everyone else in.
