Book Review ~ House Girl by Tara Conklin

House Girl by Tara Conklin was a good read for me.  It wasn't perfect.  There were some odd subplots and I am generally not a fan of using letters between characters to further the story . . . but . . . I still believe it was worth reading.

I did enjoy the switch between two stories placed a century apart . . . one during pre-Civil War times and the other in the modern day.

The modern story is about a lawyer looking for the perfect "face" to begin a reparations case for families of slaves.  The 100 year old story is about a slave girl who runs away.  The two stories mesh when it is revealed that the paintings being sold by the family of a renowned artist might have actually been painted by the runaway girl.

Enjoy!
